I once had the fortunate experience of working for one of the worst managers I have ever seen. He would lead his virtual meetings standing over his team and treated each individual as if they were only there to fit into his definition of the 12 types of personalities he defined in his sexist and abusive book he called satire. His narrow view of his associates and an even narrower view of how they could contribute to greater success was only about being their boss and not ever being a leader. So why would I say it was fortunate to work for this person? Because that experience taught me more about who I am, my worth and where I am meant to be than all of the wonderful and supportive managers I have ever had. Why? More than merely learning what not to do, being subjected to such nonsensical tyranny confused and frustrated me until I broke and I was forced to rebuild. When I rebuilt, I learned so much about how those that cherished me saw me, how incredible the support system around me was and that my imposter syndrome was all in my head. I learned that inside of me was a great leader who learned from the best and that no matter how great my management said I was or could be, I never had the courage, or the need to expand my horizons. I learned that no one could ever take from me that which I did not allow them to and that inside of me is a warrior that can and will withstand anything life can throw at me. I learned who I am and what I am made of, that I am great and inside me is a spirit that can never be completely broken. The result, today I am about to embark on a new journey that is light years ahead of where I was, stepping into what I was always told I was meant to be. Had I never faced this level of adversity, I would have never left my comfort zone. Almost everyone has their own toxic manager story and each of us has a choice when we are faced with it. We can either let their small minded mentality infect us and take us down to where they want us to be, or we can learn to find the warrior within us and rise above to find success we never believed we were worthy of. Never again will I allow those small minds to constrict my own. Never again will I give someone like that power over me they don’t deserve. Never again will I give up on what I believe and where I know I belong. To all those who are currently faced with a small minded and toxic boss, let this be your wake up call to walk away and take charge of who you are. You are great, you are worthy and no one should ever convince you that you are not, certainly not someone who is supposed to be a champion of your success. You are a warrior built for better things, take up your sword and shield and march on to your own victory. #delorean #iamdelorean #iamdeloreanhearmeroar #riseabove #youareworthy #thankyougreatleaders

Being a leader isn't always easy, let me tell you. Sure, you might get some respect. Your opinion always matters. And you get to choose where the next staff night out is. But there's a whopping downside, especially when it comes to the end of the quarter and you're responsible for making sure everyone is on target. 🎯When things start to fail, and they do, occasionally, it can cause you to have negative thoughts. Was it my fault? Should I have stepped in earlier? And I know dwelling on these isn't healthy, but hey, I'm as human as the rest of you and it can get to me.Our mindset impacts everything. From the decisions we make, to the quality of our work, and the way we communicate. Think about it. How likely are you to do your best work when you're feeling stressed or rushed? I've been there, but I think I've figured it out in recent years. I do my best to stay positive, and here are some of this tips which I find helpful.🔵 Think about what you have, rather than what you don't. They call this an 'abundance mindset', but that sounds a bit too 'management speak' for me. It's a 'glass half full' perspective. This approach helps you and your team be more creative, even when things are tough.🔵 Change your language. And no, not in a 'Duolingo' way. I mean, instead of calling things a 'problem' or 'challenge', call them opportunities. They are a chance to learn, even if its just learning a way NOT to do something.🔵 Guide rather than criticise. Guiding and mentoring improves moral, but criticising crushes it.🔵 Celebrate wins. Of course you should lear from setbacks, sorry, opportunities. But you must cheer success, too. You don't have to spend a fortune to acknowledge a job well done.🔵 Consider who you connect with. I'm very lucky that I'm surrounded by positive people, because they influence my outlook.🔵 Stay grounded. Don't ignore challenges, face them head-on with the knowledge that you CAN tackle them. Having this attitude often makes the difference.I know what you're thinking. And no, it's not always as easy as all that. Please remember, you're not trying to force cheerfulness. That won't work, you'll feel as false as that smile you're pretending to wear. No, it's about really trying to change your attitude. Positive steps to improve your optimism and resilience. You're smart enough to know you need it, because if you do it, your team feels the effects and the whole business thrives.Let me know your thoughts and experiences with this 'positive mindset' in the comments. 👇🏼#PositiveMindset #PositiveLeadership #WorkplaceCulture

"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat." - Theodore RooseveltThis is Human Factors Exploration Week with Human Factors Consulting (HFC).Today our spotlight is on courage. What is your relationship with #courage? Is it healthy? The brain is wired to keep us safe. Signals of fear are meant to protect us from danger (or perceived danger). The challenge comes when we succumb to fear, allow it to take over our thoughts and determine our response to fear, real or perceived. I have learned that many fear-inducing emotions are not real, present, dangers. Rather they are indications or invitations to take action, intentionally, purposefully, often doing something outside your comfort zone. Outside your comfort zone is where growth happens. Yet, so many of us are uncomfortable with uncertainty, the unknown, or anything outside the confines of our comfort zone. The growth opportunity: become comfortable with the uncomfortable. As I have grown my relationship with becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable, I have realized the opportunities that lie in BEing present in the current moment. Remaining curious, building my noticing muscle, and expanding my awareness of the present. This better informs my understanding of the current reality, and what, if any, action to take in the moment.Courage is not the absence of fear. It is having a healthy relationship with #fear that allows you to act in the face of it.Need support with developing your relationship with courage? A friend once told me this, “Focus on today. Focus on winning today and making good use of the opportunity you have now instead of worrying about the future”You see, worrying might seem the easiest path to take, especially when you are a chronic overthinker. You fuss over what's going to happen tomorrow or next month in your mind instead of working with what you have today. The truth is that the future you are thinking about will eventually come and if you are not prepared for the opportunities that comes at that time, you might miss it.Focusing on winning every single day cultivates discipline, resilience, and determination that will eventually create the future you desire. Your future results is determined by your present actions. If you want to focus on winning today, do this;1. Set daily goals.2. Practice mindfulness and stay present.3. Break tasks into smaller, manageable steps.4. Limit distractions and stay focused on the present task.5. Cultivate gratitude for the present moment.Overthinking or worrying gets you no where.Doing does.Worry less and do more.I hope you had a wonderful Sunday. I sure did🤗Yours~Oluchi

📢 Harmonizing Ego with Humility: A Blueprint for Success 📢As I start to articulate my thoughts on this contentious topic I am reminded of very contextual advice given to me in 2008 (as I took over the command of my Regiment), by Maj Gen Rajiv Edwards, VSM** (Retd) - a Regimental senior and well wisher. "Ego is the only requirement to destroy any relationship. So be a bigger person, skip the ‘E’ and let it ‘go’." I didn't quite understand the importance of these words then, but of late I have realised in multiple personal and professional encounters that an inflated ego can ruin a person's life, leading to personal and professional decline. However, when balanced with humility, ego can become a driving force for self-confidence, ambition, and resilience. The key lies in understanding humility as an essential life ethos, guiding us toward success in both personal and professional realms."Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less." – C.S. LewisEgo, on the other hand when unchecked, breeds arrogance and a distorted sense of self-importance. It creates barriers to genuine connection and collaboration, alienating others and fostering unhealthy competition. An inflated ego blinds individuals to their weaknesses, making them resistant to feedback and self-improvement. Relationships suffer, opportunities are missed, and personal growth is stunted. The downfall of many talented individuals can often be traced back to an unchecked ego overshadowing their abilities and potential. In stark contrast, humility fosters openness, receptivity, and a genuine connection with others. A humble person acknowledges their strengths and achievements without succumbing to arrogance. They remain open to feedback and willing to learn from others, which is essential for continuous growth and improvement. Humility grounds us, providing a realistic self-assessment and fostering meaningful relationships based on respect and empathy.A balanced ego, tempered with humility, drives individuals to believe in their abilities, set ambitious goals, and persist in the face of challenges. This self-confidence, rooted in humility, ensures that one's ambition does not give way to hubris. It is through humility that individuals maintain resilience, as they remain adaptable and open to new perspectives, even in the face of setbacks.Humility is the cornerstone of true success, serving as a compass that guides us through the complexities of life and relationships. By balancing ego with humility, individuals can harness the positive aspects of ego, fostering ambition, resilience, and self-improvement. This balanced approach ensures that self-confidence does not give way to arrogance and that pride does not hinder growth. We would do well to remember that humility is not a sign of weakness but a powerful tool for enduring success and fulfillment."The higher we are placed, the more humbly we should walk." – Marcus Tullius Cicero#PathToSuccess

🌟 𝐔𝐧𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠🌟In my over three decades of working closely with professionals and corporate entities, I've witnessed a common thread among many individuals: a persistent sense of dissatisfaction and a longing to be something they are not. Whether it's the corporate employee eyeing the allure of entrepreneurship, the entrepreneur yearning for the stability of corporate life, or the longing for the perceived glamour of bureaucracy or politics, there seems to be a prevalent belief that grass is always greener on the other side. This incessant comparison and yearning for a different path often result in a turbulent inner landscape, breeding feelings of inadequacy, self-doubt, and a perpetual chase for fulfillment. However, amidst this sea of unrest, there exists a rare breed of individuals who radiate contentment with who they are. They serve as beacons of stability, drawing others towards them seeking guidance and inspiration. What sets these content souls apart? It's their ability to conquer their minds, to find solace in their current circumstances, and to cultivate a deep sense of gratitude for the blessings in their lives.I recently coached someone who embarked on a simple yet transformative practice: starting and ending each day with a few sentences of gratitude. This small act of acknowledging one's blessings fosters a shift from a mindset of scarcity to one of abundance, paving the way for positivity and growth.By embracing gratitude and cultivating a sense of resourcefulness, one begins to feel more secure and open to possibilities. The fear of failure diminishes, replaced by a bias towards action and a genuine openness to feedback and collaboration. This transformation not only breeds personal success but also enhances one's trustworthiness and humility, key qualities of effective leadership.Contrary to the competitive ethos often ingrained in traditional education and corporate culture, true fulfillment and success stem from a place of inner peace and authenticity. It's about transcending the incessant race to outdo others and instead focusing on becoming the best version of oneself. But embarking on this journey of self-realization and growth isn't easy. It requires guidance, support, and a deep sense of spirituality to leverage one's intelligence and intellect towards becoming a truly impactful leader. So, if you find yourself caught in the whirlwind of comparison and discontent, perhaps it's time to seek the guidance of a coach or mentor who can help you navigate this transformative journey. Are you ready to embark on this journey towards self-realization and success? Let's connect and start this transformative process together. Remember, the power to change your life lies within you. 🌟 #SelfRealization #CoachingForSuccess #Gratitude #PersonalTransformation

Have you ever found yourself shrugging off a compliment or playing down an accolade? Hey there,It's surprisingly common, especially when Imposter Syndrome is in play. We tend to dismiss our achievements, attributing them to 'just luck' rather than our own skills and efforts. But here's the thing: this reluctance to accept success can be a barrier to the self-worth and confidence we all deserve. "Comparison is the thief of joy.""Stay in your own lane."We're often told to look up to others, while doing our own thing. Which is it?What is actually helpful?I do often ask coachees who they admire for a particular trait, when they're working on things like setting better boundaries, saying no, acting more confident, or being a better manager. It can be useful. But... The thing I find a challenge with 'inspirational' development books is that the examples given are often so far from my frame of reference, or not what I aspire to, that they hold no relevance for me. When you ask yourself "What would Beyoncé do in this situation?", you may not find it as useful as asking what would a great colleague do. (You also need to remember that Beyoncé has 'people' to do some of the drudgier stuff for her. That whole "we all have the same number of hours in the day" debate is so important l. Technically we do: we don't all have the ability to use them in the same way.) Yet looking up to people can be a positive motivator. You just need to make sure it's the right people. And for the right thing. Our goals need to give us a bit of a stretch. But the A in SMART is for achievable. If our inspirational person is someone whose life is so far away from ours, then maybe we need to ask the question a little closer to home. Maybe it's that manager you had two jobs ago, who held good boundaries between life and work. What did they do that you could emulate in your new role?Or maybe it is Beyoncé, but it's about how you could emulate the grit and determination she had before she became the global sensation she is?Who are your role models? I'm currently in my "What would P!nk do, as I listen to her in repeat, ahead of working her Tottenham Summer Carnival gigs. What would P!nk do? She'd write a f***ing song about it!Image description: White text on a purple background reads" WWXD*? *insert name of someone you admire". Top right is the Coaching with Jo logo, a horizontal orange rectangle, the words Coaching with Jo, in purple stacked on one another, to the right a white four-point outline compass."

3 Qs for SuccessA thought-provokingquotefor you to consider. Aqualmto explore the fears and uncertainty we all face. An open-endedquestionto leave you self-examining. QUOTEWhen you choose your friends today, you are choosing your habits tomorrow.- James ClearSurround yourself with people who are better than you. If you want to grow your leadership skills, surround yourself with people such that you're the weakest leader in the room.If you want to grow your business, find an environment where you're the most naive person in the room.If you want to grow your spiritual life, find friends who make you the least spiritual person in the room. The idea that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with is so true. Spend time with people who are better than you, and you will naturally improve. It ironically feels more effortless. And you can only give what you have, so become something great. These ROTC cadets are the top in their class, and now I'm in the best physical shape of my life!QUALMBeing a fun leader, especially in the worst situations. The last few weeks have been some of the most challenging for me, career-wise. We had some bad fires, repeatedly. A lot of our production has been delayed. We've been re-prioritizing our time and focus. We had to bring on new team members and old team members had to take on new responsibilities. The company has had to calibrate with these changes. Being positive when things go bad is a challenge; I'm so attached to the show (being both host and CEO), that it's hard to treat everything with level-headed distance.Fear is definitely a powerful emotion, and it's not something I want to embody as a leader. I'm working to be committed, and driven, but also unattached to the results. I think you have to accept saying yes and letting go in the face of the fire. No one wants to work for a square. I want to be a fun, inspiring leader. It's true that being a CEO is one of the loneliest jobs you can have because you have to be careful about unloading all the stress and worry you have onto your team, or else it will spread like an infection. You have to accept it with a straight face, and push forward. QUESTIONWho in my life is making it hard to succeed? Our team is committed to changing the world by encouraging others to become the best version of themselves. We all strive for greatness; together we can achieve it.
